Fiestas Patrias

This year’s Fiestas Patrias were a bit challenging for me since I recently had gastric sleeve surgery. I couldn’t eat most traditional foods or drink alcohol, but I still made sure to enjoy time with family and friends.

On Friday the 13th, I sold choripanes at the university with two friends and then relaxed in Santiago. On Tuesday the 17th, I went to the "fonda" at Parque O'Higgins with my parents, brother, and grandmother, who visited from Valparaíso since we don’t see her often. I spent the 18th at home with my family.

On the 19th, I celebrated a childhood friend’s birthday, and on the 20th, I went to a party with some friends. Finally, on the 21st, I got together with other university friends to play traditional games. I kept busy with various activities, although I’ll admit I was tempted by a “terremotito.” For obvious reasons, I didn’t drink or eat anything outside my diet plan, but I hope that next year I can enjoy a delicious empanada de pino and a mote con huesillo, my two favorite treats for this time of year! Hahaha!

  1. Oh, you couldn't eat much, I don't know if I had the willpower to do that

  3. I´m not a meat eater (so I don´t eat empanadas de pino) but I love mote with huesillo if it´s not too sweet:)
